What is red light therapy?
Red and near-infrared light therapy (sometimes called photobiomodulation, or PBM) is the clinical use of specific wavelengths of light to support cellular recovery. Six decades of peer-reviewed research has linked it to faster wound healing, improved skin tone, reduced muscle soreness, joint pain relief, and bone-density support. How often should I use it?
Ten minutes a day is the recommended protocol across all Lumora devices. Consistency outperforms intensity. A daily ten minute session for six weeks will compound into changes you will see and feel; two long sessions a week will not.
When will I see results?
Most users feel the first soft tissue changes (less DOMS, easier mornings) within the first 7 to 14 days. Visible skin changes settle in across weeks 4 to 8. Joint and bone changes are slower and more cumulative, often felt around month 2 to 3 of daily use.
Is it safe?
Red and near-infrared light is non-ionising and has no known cumulative damage profile at the doses Lumora devices deliver. Devices ship with eye protection because direct retinal exposure to a high-irradiance LED source is uncomfortable, not because the light itself is dangerous to surrounding tissue.
Can I use it during pregnancy or on medication?
Red light therapy is generally considered safe, but we recommend speaking to your GP before starting any new wellness routine, particularly during pregnancy or if you are taking photosensitising medication.
Do I need eye protection?
Yes during direct facial exposure, or if the panel is at face height. Every Lumora device ships with goggles or an eye mask. For sessions where the light is below face level (the Sleeping Lumina lying face up, Dusk on the chest) eye protection is optional but always sensible.
What is the difference between the products?
Aurora is the full-body workhorse, standing up. Halo is the same engine focused into a tighter beam on an adjustable stand, ideal for one zone at a time. Lumina is a full-body lying-down mat with over 1,500 LEDs. Dusk is a slim flexible panel for in-bed use. All four use the same 660 nm + 850 nm wavelengths.
Can I combine it with other treatments?
Yes. Red light therapy works well alongside physiotherapy, sports massage, skincare routines, post-procedure recovery and most training programs. If you are using prescription topicals on skin, check with the prescribing professional before stacking.
How much electricity does it use?
A ten minute session on Aurora uses roughly 33 Wh, less than a phone charge. Halo uses less than half of that. Annual cost of daily use sits around the price of one takeaway coffee per year at current UK rates.
Where are Lumora devices made?
Designed in the United Kingdom, manufactured to ISO 13485 standards across two facilities in the EU and East Asia. Every device is QA tested for irradiance and EMF before it leaves the warehouse.
